Canandaigua, NY -- On Wednesday, March 1 the NJCAA Region III named their 2016-17 Women’s Basketball All-Region Team. Among its members are the Finger Lakes Community College Lakers, sophomore Kristal Hunter, and freshman Janae Brannon.
Janae Brannon was awarded second team All-Region III for Division III. Brannon is currently ranked sixth in the region for her 9.9 rebounds per game, and a team high of 277 total rebounds for the season. Brannon also holds a team high of 151 assists and 78 steals. Additionally, she has scored 244 points with an average of 8.7 points per game for the Lakers.
Krystal Hunter was awarded third team All-Region III for Division III. Hunter has also been selected as a member of the 2016-17 MSAC All-Conference Team last week. Hunter holds a 37.1 field goal percentage, a 32.2 three point percentage, and holds the team high in points scored for the Lakers this season, with 401. She has also averaged 14.3 points per game for the Lakers.
Kelly Broderick, the FLCC Women’s Basketball Head Coach, was announced as the 2016-17 Region III Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year. Broderick also received the MSAC Conference Coach of the Year Award. This is Broderick’s first year as the Finger Lakes women’s basketball coach. Her team currently has a record of 21-8, with a second place finish at the 2016-17 MSAC Tournament. Broderick will lead the Lady Lakers to the NJCAA Region III Semi-Finals against Onondaga Community College on Saturday, March 4. She plans to return to Putt Moore court next season to lead the Lakers to more victories, after her successful 2016-17 season.
