CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (3-11, 0-0 MSAC) split a home doubleheader this afternoon with the Jamestown Community College Jayhawks. The Lakers took game one in dominating fashion by a score of 9-2. The Jayhawks rebounded in game two with an 8-1 victory.
In a winning effort in game one, the Lakers were highlighted by the offensive efforts of Matt Tyma (Ontario, NY), Justin Stowell (Horseheads, NY), and Anthony Gonzalez (Rochester, NY), as well as the pitching efforts of Billy Kosachook (Ontario, NY).Tyma, Stowell, and Gonzalez each registered two hits apiece in the win. Tyma's two-hit afternoon was highlighted by his first home run of his collegiate career. On the mound, Kosachook notched his first win at the collegiate level as a pitcher by recording two strikeouts while allowing just two hits in five innings worth of work.
In a losing effort in game two, Finger Lakes received one hit (all singles) each from Eddie Tagliareni (Mexico, NY), Hector Mitaynes (Rochester, NY), and Stowell. Stowell's hit extended his hitting streak to eleven games.
The Lakers will now hit the road for their next set of games. They will take on Jefferson Community College on Friday (4/6) in an afternoon doubleheader. Game one is set to get underway at 2:00 pm.
