CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (8-18) were shutout by conference foes (#7 nationally ranked*) Onondaga Community College (Lazers) this afternoon in both games of a home doubleheader. The Lazers took game one (17-0) and two (3-0) in dominating fashion. Onondaga managed to hold the Lakers to a pair of hits in game one and just four hits in game two.
Game One: In a losing effort, Finger Lakes two hits (both singles) came off of the bats of Anthony Gonzalez (Rochester, NY) and Corey Cowen (West Edmeston, NY). Gonzalez and Cowen also added two stolen bases apiece.
Game Two: Despite losing, the Lakers received a solid game out of starting pitcher Stephen Lewis (Pittsford, NY). Lewis went the distance on the mound, finishing the game with six strikeouts and just two walks. All three Onondaga runs allowed by Lewis were earned. Offensively, Finger Lakes received one hit each (all singles) from Hector Mitaynes (Rochester, NY), Dominick Beniamino (Geneva, NY), Branden Rhodes (Victor, NY), and Adam Szczupakowski (Spencerport, NY).
Upcoming Games: The Lakers will travel to Onondaga tomorrow for an afternoon doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 1:00 pm.
