Lakers Set to Host Cougars at Home Today

CANANDAIGUA – The Lakers will hit the field today as they are set to take on Genesee CC in an afternoon home doubleheader. First pitch will be tossed at 2 pm. Finger Lakes enters play with a 9-20 record while the Cougars will come into action 16-7.  

Both teams previously met for a pair of games on Apr. 17, 2012 on GCC's campus. The Lakers and Cougars split the doubleheader. GCC took game one 7-0 while Finger Lakes conquered the nightcap 4-3.

In the opener, former Cougars starting pitcher Ruben Medina launched a no-hit bid. The Lakers bounced back in game two. Finger Lakes pieced together a late rally in the finale. Trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning, the Lakers would tie the game at 2-2 as Anthony Gonzalez ('12) would lay down a bunt that would bring home Matt Tyma ('12) for the game tying run.  

The Lakers would then discover the lead in the sixth thanks to a Branden Rhodes sacrifice fly. Reaching home plate for the 3-2 lead was Dominick Beniamino ('12).

Finger Lakes would go on to add an insurance run in the seventh before grabbing the 4-3 win.

In the pitching department, Jace-Adam Havrilla notched the win while Dakota Stackhouse picked up a two-inning save in relief.
