The Finger Lakes Community College Baseball Team is ready to start another successful season for the Lakers. In their 2016 season they set the new record for wins in a single season going 40-16, breaking the previous record of 38. The Lakers finished with a Region III Tournament appearance last season. The Lakers head coach, Sean Marren now in his sixth season, intends to acquire similar results for 2017.
Sophomore Austin Teets is a returning outfielder for the Lakers. Previously Teets held a .969 fielding percentage and a .256 batting average. Joining Teets in the Lakers outfield will be freshman Jake Rugaber, Andrew Jacobs, Brett Otto, and Chris Lovin.
Mike Magnanti will return to lead the Lakers infield. Magnanti was awarded Conference Player of the Year, the Marucci Elite Hitter Award, NJCAA second team All-American, and a first team All-Region III. He finished his season with a .473 batting average, including 86 hits and 77 runs scored. Joining Magnanti in the infield for the Lakers will be freshman Trevor Bradshaw, Chris Gresham, and Cody Cooper.
Michael Donofrio and Cole Dubois are currently the returning lead pitchers for Lakers. Donofrio finished his 2016 season going 7-1, while Dubois went 5-1 for the Lakers. Joining the Lakers pitching lineup will be the following freshman Kobie Punchard, Tyler Johnson, Jordan Bartolis, Evan Pappalardo, Jake Nicholas, and Chris Ewing.
The Lakers will begin their 2017 season on Saturday, March 11 at Westmoreland County Community College.
