Lakers Split With Jayhawks on Thursday

Canandaigua, NY -- The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team faced Jamestown Community College in a Region III double header contest on Thursday, April 14.  The Lakers split with the Jayhawks, dropping their first game 8-4 and winning the second 7-6.

The Lakers fell behind in the first inning 2-1.  The Jayhawks would go on to score 4 runs in the by the top of the fourth inning.  The Lakers scored three runs by the bottom of the sixth, now trailing the Jayhawks 8-4. There would be no scoring in the final inning as the Jayhawks would take game one.   

Zac Catlin, Austin Teets, Mike Magnanti, and Trevor Bradshaw each had two hits for the Lakers. Bradshaw had two doubles. Cody Cooper finished with one hit and two RBI's, while Teets and Ryan Richer each had one RBI apiece.  Kobie Punchard pitched four innings for the Lakers.  He had two strikeouts and gave up four earned runs after facing 23 batters.  

The Lakers battled hard in game two of Thursday's double header.  They held the Jayhawks scoreless through two innings.  In the third inning, each team would give up one run apiece. Jamestown scored twice in the third but gave up four runs to the Lakers in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Jayhawks would battle back to score three in the top of the sixth inning to go up 6-5.  Finger Lakes scored in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 6-6 and send it into extra innings.  The Lakers were able to score in the bottom of the following inning to clinch a 7-6 victory over the Jayhawks.  

Mike Magnanti finished game two 4-for-5, scoring three times for the Lakers.  Brett Otto went 4-for-4 with two RBI's and two doubles.  Austin Teets and Cody Cooper each went 2-for-4 with two RBI's apiece. Nick Ferrino had two hits and one RBI.  Evan Pappalardo pitched five innings for the Lakers.  He allowed two earned runs after facing 27 batters.  

The Lakers will face the Thunder Wolves from Niagara County Community College in a double header contest on Saturday, April 15.  In their last meeting on April 9, the Thunder Wolves took both games by scores of 3-0 and 11-1.  Game one of Saturday's double header is scheduled for 11 am.
