Carbonell’s 16 Points Leads Lakers to 61-52 Road Win Over Corning

CORNING, NY. – The Lakers, behind Sean Carbonell's team and season-high 16 points on Thursday, took down Mid-State Athletic Conference foes Corning CC on the road – 61-52. The sophomore forward, on the night, shot 6-7 from the field all while pulling down 7 rebounds.  

Following Carbonell in the scoring department for the Lakers with 15 points was Will Arberry. His 15 points were the result of a 4-10 shooting night from the field. Arberry accounted for 7 of his points from the free throw line where he was 7-8 for the game. In addition to his offense, the 6'3" Milwaukee, WI native pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds.

Finger Lakes came into the Red Barons territory last night looking to pick up its third win in four games. The Lakers, who trailed 30-25 at the half, erased their halftime deficit by outscoring Corning in the final 20 minutes of the contest – 36-22.

Finger Lakes earned the victory behind a solid team-wide shooting effort. In 40 minutes worth of basketball, it shot 44% from the hardwood.

The Lakers, offensively, in addition to the play of Carbonell and Arberry, received 9-point and 8-point efforts out of Dominique Higgins and Ben Wilburn respectively.

Both Higgins and Wilburn added to the Lakers overall shooting percentage with 4-9 and 4-8 showings (respectively) from the court. The quality play of these two guards didn't just come from the offensive end of the gymnasium on Thursday. Defensively, Higgins snagged a game-high 7 steals while Wilburn put claim to 5 steals – each of which came in the second half.

Leading Finger Lakes in the assist's column with 4 assists was sophomore Richard De La Cruz.

Pitching in with 3 assists each for the Lakers were Higgins and Kaleem Edwards.

Corning, in a losing effort, was paced by Will Griffin's game-high 20 points.

The Lakers will remain on the road for their next game. In another conference meeting tomorrow, Finger Lakes will travel to Auburn, NY where it will take on Cayuga CC. Game time tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
