2012 Season Preview – Lakers to Feature Talented Incoming Class and Key Returnees
CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers and 9th year head coach Dave Stein are excited for what is in store for the 2012 season. The Lakers, coming off of a season that saw them finish with an overall record of 8-10 (6-8 MSAC) in 2011; will welcome back a core group of talented athletes along with a strong incoming recruiting class. Sophomore attackman Josh Taylor (Calgary, Alberta) will head the team's list of top returnees from 2011. Last season, Taylor accumulated 25 goals in 13 games played. Expect his production in the offense to increase in 2012 as he will be featured as one of the team's marquee weapons.
Midfielder and one of the Lakers team captains from 2011, Parker Weeks (Canandaigua, NY), will also be another key returnee this season. The sophomore tallied 10 goals and handed out 14 assists in 13 games played in 2011. Expect his role in the offense to increase this season. The talented Weeks should remain as one of the Lakers main ball distributors and could become one of the team's top goal scorers.
Coach Stein is also delighted to have key returning sophomores (both team captains in 2011), attackman Steve Campaniello (Rochester, NY) and defenseman Chris Tauterouff (Canandaigua, NY) back on the roster this season. Both athletes were productive forces in 2011. Campaniello scored 5 goals and tallied 9 assists in 10 games played. Tauterouff scored 6 goals and dished out 6 assists in 11 games played.
This year's recruiting class is expected to be recognized as one of the Lakers best in school history. British Columbia native, attackman Cale Giese (Kamloops, British Columbia) head's the promising freshman group of players that will be featured on the roster this season. As a high school lacrosse player at South Kamloops Secondary, Giese was consistently a standout threat on offense. Expect him to make a smooth transition into a Lakers uniform during his freshman campaign.
This year's team will feature a core group of freshman midfielders that are all rated as highly talented athletes. This group of athletes includes the likes of Jack Timerson (Newark, NY), Matt Fuller (Medina, NY), Albert Thompson (Medina, NY), Rob Pelkey (Fairport, NY), and Alex Thoms (Newark, NY).
FLCC will also be bringing in a trio of defenders that are expected to play important roles on the defensive side of the ball this season. These athletes include the likes of sophomore Andres Torruella (Geneva, NY) and a pair of freshmen, Jordan Quayle (Canandaigua, NY) and Kyle Eckam (Rochester, NY).
The Lakers will turn to freshman goalie John Perrucci (Myrtle Beach, SC) as the team's featured goaltender in 2012. The South Carolina native has the speed and acceleration to get to a majority of opposing team's shots on goal. Expect him to become a recognizable force in the net this season.
This year's Lakers team will feature a roster full of athleticism and highly talented individuals. Expect FLCC to be a winning team in 2012 as well as a constant competitor in every game.
