Lacrosse – Perrucci Shines In Goal For Lakers In Road Win Over Mohawk
UTICA, NY. – In a game that was resumed from a suspended matchup (on 3/19) between the Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (6-7, 4-3 Region III, 2-0 MSAC) and the Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks, the Lakers were led by the outstanding play of goaltender John Perrucci (Myrtle Beach, SC) in a 6-2 road victory this afternoon. Perrucci dominated the game in goal by accumulating 18 saves while allowing just 2 goals in 60 minutes worth of action. He currently leads the nation in total saves* with 207 in 13 games played.
Along with superb goaltending today, Finger Lakes defense was also a key factor in the victory. The Lakers controlled the first period by holding the Hawks to no goals while outscoring them 2-0. Finger Lakes drew with Mohawk in periods two and three (1-1 in each period) before closing out the game with 2-0 shutout in the fourth.
Offensively, the Lakers were led by the stick of Joshua Taylor (Calgary, Alberta). Taylor tallied two goals in the winning effort. He currently stands in fourth place in the nation in total goals scored** with 36 in 13 games played.
Finger Lakes also received one goal each from Steve Campaniello (Rochester, NY), Rob Pelkey (Fairport, NY), Cale Giese (Kamloops, British Columbia), and Jack Timerson (Newark, NY). Campaniello and Pelkey both joined Taylor in the 2-point scoring department by adding 1 assist each. Matt Fuller (Medina, NY) also contributed an assist for the Lakers in the win.
Finger Lakes will look to climb back to .500 on Wednesday (4/11) when they take on Alfred State College on the road. Faceoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
