Lacrosse – Lakers Squeeze By Alfred State On Road With 12-11 Win
ALFRED, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (7-7, 2-0 MSAC, 5-3 Region III) put their overall record back to .500 this afternoon after winning a nail biter of a game over the Alfred State College Pioneers, 12-11. Today's game consisted of each team outscoring the other in two of the four periods. The Lakers took period one, 6-3. The Pioneers outscored Finger Lakes in the second, 3-1. The Lakers came out in the third with a strong attack on defense, forcing a 2-0 shutout. Alfred State would rebound in the fourth by taking the period, 5-3, but fell one goal short of tying the game as Finger Lakes held on for the victory.
The Lakers offense consisted of a balanced scoring attack in today's win. Steve Campaniello (Rochester, NY) and Jack Timerson (Newark, NY) both shared team-high honors in the scoring department for Finger Lakes with 6 points each. Timerson poured in 3 goals and handed out 3 assists while Campaniello scored a pair of goals and tallied 4 assists. Campaniello's 4-assist effort now puts him into seventh place in the nation in total assists. He currently has 25 assists in 14 games played this season. Timerson's 3-assist day moves him into fourteenth place in the nation in total assists. He currently has 18 assists in 14 games played this season.
Timerson was joined by teammate Matt Fuller (Medina, NY) in the 3-goal department this afternoon. Fuller's hat trick now gives him 15 goals on the season (in 12 games played). Chris Tauterouff (Canandaigua, NY), a key Lakers defender, contributed a pair of goals in the winning effort. The nation's fifth leading goal scorer Joshua Taylor (Calgary, Alberta) and Tom Loudon (Overland Park, KS) rounded out the goal scoring column for Finger Lakes by scoring one goal apiece. Taylor also added an assist. With his goal, Taylor now has 37 goals in 14 games played this season.
In goal, John Perrucci (Myrtle Beach, SC) did an excellent job of tending the net for all 60 minutes of today's contest for the Lakers. He finished the game with 30 saves. His 30-save game now gives 237 total saves on the season (in 14 games played). Perrucci currently ranks first in the nation in total saves.
Finger Lakes will be back in action on Saturday 4/14 when they host Tompkins Cortland Community College at home. Faceoff is slated for 1:00 pm.
