Lacrosse – Lakers Lose Close Game At Home To Tompkins Cortland, 11-10

CANANDAIGUA, NY. – In a game that consisted of several lead changes today between the Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (7-8, 2-1 MSAC, 5-4 Region III) and the Tompkins Cortland Community College Panthers, it was the Panthers that edged the Lakers, but by the slimmest of margins, 11-10. Finger Lakes outscored Tompkins in the first period, 4-3. The Panthers would then rebound in the second and third periods, taking the second, 2-1, and the third, 3-2. The Lakers drew with Tompkins in the fourth, 3-3, falling just one goal short of tying the game. With the one-goal loss, Finger Lakes has now been in back-to-back games decided by just one goal. They previously defeated Alfred State College on the road on April 11th, 12-11.

Despite the loss, the Lakers hung with the Panthers all game long this afternoon by executing well on offense and defense. Finger Lakes also received a solid goaltending performance out of freshman John Perrucci (Myrtle Beach, SC). Perrucci played all 60 minutes of today's contest, gathering 18 saves for the Lakers. He remains first in the nation in total saves*with 255 on the season.

On the offensive side of the ball, sophomore standout Joshua Taylor (Calgary, Alberta) highlighted the Lakers with his 6-goal effort. His 6-goal game now moves him into a first place tie with David Fernandes of SUNY Delhi for the most goals scored in the nation**on the season. Both individuals have scored 43 goals apiece on the season.

Along with Taylor, Steve Campaniello (Rochester, NY) and Jack Timerson (Newark, NY) continue to play solid lacrosse for Finger Lakes as well. Campaniello poured in 2 goals and handed out 2 assists while Timerson notched 1 goal and dished out 3 assists on the afternoon.

Matt Fuller (Medina, NY) scored the Lakers other remaining goal. Rob Pelkey (Fairport, NY) and Chris Tauterouff (Canandaigua, NY) added one assist each for Finger Lakes in the loss.

The Lakers will take on the Broome Community College Hornets in their next game, which will take place on Monday (4/16) on the road at 4:00 pm. The Hornets current overall record stands at 5-6 on the season.
