Lacrosse – Lakers Season Ends In First Round Of Regional Playoffs
BATAVIA, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (9-12, 3-2 MSAC) season came to an end tonight when it fell to the #4 nationally ranked Genesee Community College Cougars in the first round of the 2012 NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament. The Lakers came into tournament play seeded seventh while the Cougars dawned the two seed. Tonight's game was the second meeting of the season (regular and postseason) between both teams. Genesee downed Finger Lakes in mid March (3/14) on the road, 23-8.
Game Summary: The Lakers kept the game close in the first half by squandering just a 5-0 halftime deficit. The Cougars scored two goals in the first period and three in the second before opening up the flood gates in the second half. Genesee proceeded to increase their goal totals in each period of the second half as well by scoring five in the third before finishing off Finger Lakes with ten in the fourth. Overall, the Cougars physicality and play making abilities on offense and defense proved to be overwhelming, thus verifying their top five ranking in the national polls.
