Lacrosse – Finger Lakes To Host List Of Summer Youth Camps

CANANDAIGUA, NY. -- Are you currently an elementary, middle, or high school student (boy or girl entering grades 2-12 this upcoming fall) who is an avid lacrosse player? If so, are you looking for ways to improve your game on the field? Well, Finger Lakes Community College (CC) is the right place to be this summer if you are looking to brush up your playing skills.

Finger Lakes CC head men's lacrosse coach Dave Stein will be hosting a variety of youth camps starting in late June. Each camp will be centered on one specific aspect of the sport of lacrosse. Each interested potential camper may attend any of the Individual or Overnight Camps listed in this article.

(Note: Each camp except the Attack and Defend Camp (participants must be entering grades 6-12 this fall) and Overnight Resident Camp (participants must be ages 9-17) is open for attendance for any boy or girl who is entering grades 2-12 this fall. The Attack and Defend Camp is considered an Individual Camp. Each Individual Camp will start at 4:30 pm and conclude at 6:00 pm except the Overnight Resident Camp (camper will stay in on-campus suites at Finger Lakes CC and will participate in full-day camp sessions for a period of five days -- each camp will start at 8:30 am and conclude at 9:00 pm -- meals are included). The cost to attend each Individual Camp is $45. The cost to attend each Overnight Resident Camp is $325 (must be paid by July 1st -- after July 1st, price will be $350).

Individual Camps:

Shooters Only  

When: Tuesday, June 26, 2012 – Thursday, June 28, 2012

Directed By: Finger Lakes CC offensive lacrosse coach Mike Alves

Campers Can Expect: To go through various drills to improve their offensive skills, in particular their shooting skills. Proper body mechanics of shooting will be discussed. In addition, each camper will have their shot speed clocked.

Campers Will Receive: Finger Lakes CC Shooter Camp T-Shirts after completion of camp

Attack and Defend

When: Tuesday, August 7, 2012 – Thursday August 9, 2012

Directed By: Finger Lakes CC lacrosse team coaching staff

Campers Can Expect: To go through various drills to improve their offensive and defensive skills

Campers Will Receive: Finger Lakes CC Attack and Defend Camp T-shirts after completion of camp

Faceoff

When: Tuesday, August 14, 2012 – Thursday, August 16, 2012

Directed By: Finger Lakes CC lacrosse team coaching staff and players

Campers Can Expect: To go through various drills to improve their faceoff skills

Campers Will Receive: Finger Lakes CC Faceoff Camp T-Shirts after completion of camp

Goalies Only

When: Tuesday, August 21, 2012 – Thursday, August 23, 2012

Campers Can Expect: To go through various drills to improve their goalkeeping skills

Campers Will Receive: Finger Lakes CC Goalie Camp T-Shirts after completion of camp

Overnight Resident Camp

When: Sunday, July 22, 2012 – Thursday, July 26, 2012

Directed By: Finger Lakes CC lacrosse team coaching staff and players

Campers Can Expect: To get the full experience of each individual camp throughout the length of each day. In addition, each camper will get the opportunity to participate in evening games.

Campers Will Receive: Finger Lakes CC Camp T-Shirts after completion of camp

 

Finger Lakes Will Also be Site of Summer Lacrosse Combine Event

In addition to hosting its summer youth camps, Finger Lakes CC will also be hosting a lacrosse combine this coming July (21) for boys entering grades 9-12 (in fall 2012) from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Cost of combine is $95. The combine, which will test each participants speed, strength, and agility, will be run by coaching staff members of the Finger Lakes CC lacrosse team (including head coach Dave Stein). A breakdown of what will take place that day is as follows:

Schedule

9:00 am – 11:00 am -- Speed, strength, and agility drills will take place including; 40 yard dash, broad jump, three-cone drill, shuttle run, and bench press (number of repetitions at 135 pounds). Each participant will also have their shot speed clocked.

11:00 am – 12:00 pm -- Lunch will take place at the Finger Lakes CC dining facility.  

12:00 pm – 2:00 pm -- Scrimmage play will take place in front of Finger Lakes CC lacrosse coaching staff members.

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm -- A meeting will be held with Finger Lakes CC coaching staff members in the Finger Lakes CC gymnasium.

Each participant will receive a pinney and pair of shorts upon day of event. All pinnies and shorts must be worn for the full six hours.
