Lakers Enter Wednesday’s Home Contest Donning an Eight-Game Winning Streak
CANANDAIGUA – The Lakers will walk onto their own field on Wednesday, where they will host Mercyhurst North East, carrying an eight-game winning streak. Finger Lakes will enter the 4 pm scheduled contest wearing a 10-6 record while Mercyhurst will come into FLCC's territory supporting a 1-4 record.
The Lakers last played the Saints on Apr. 4, 2012 on Mercyhurst's campus. In that meeting, Finger Lakes fell 10-7. In the losing effort, current Lakers Robert Pelkey, Albert Thompson, and Jack Timerson each contributed on the offensive end of the ball. Pelkey and Thompson each delivered one goal apiece while Timerson doled out a pair of assists. In net, then freshman John Perrucci pulled in 19 saves in 60 minutes of action.
The Lakers come into the game clicking on all cylinders. During their eight-game winning streak, they have notched four wins on the road as well as at home. Finger Lakes most recent victory came over conference foe Cayuga CC this past Monday as it defeated the Spartans 19-10 on its own grass.
With Monday's victory, the Lakers have now entered an historical area. Their tenth win ties the program record for most wins in an individual season.
In its meeting with Cayuga, Finger Lakes received six goals and three assists out of Pelkey in addition to the four-goal, three-assist effort of Timerson. Both Timerson and Pelkey rank one and two in the nation in goals scored, respectively. Timerson has discovered the back of the net a whopping 69 times while Pelkey stands behind him with 53 goals. With his performance on Monday, Timerson now has sole possession of being the nation's point's leader. In the 16 games he has played, the sophomore has totaled 97 points.
During the streak, the Lakers have continued to see impressive play out of Perrucci. The quality goalie currently ranks first in the nation in both saves (220) and wins (10).
