The Finger Lakes Men's Lacrosse team lost their opening two games this past weekend. The Lakers feel to the JV squad from Western New England University on Saturday by the score of 21-4. The Golden Bears are currently ranked 10th in NCAA DIII. The Lakers then lost to Navy Prep 27-4 on Sunday.
Roy Young tallied the opening goal of the season just 59 seconds into the game against Western New England. The Golden Bears would then score 10 unanswered goals to take control of the game. Matt Miller would stop the run with a goal in the second quarter, but Western New England would take an 11-2 lead into halftime. The Lakers would once again score the opening goal of the half when Nate Nichols found the back of the net, but it would not be enough. Roy Young would add his second goal of the game and Tucker Jensen would make 12 saves, but Western New England would continue on to the 21-4 victory.
On Sunday, Navy Prep got out fast and scored the first eight goals of the game. Matt Miller would score two goals in 30 seconds in the second quarter to get on the board. Derek Fuller and Roy Young would add goals later in the quarter, but Navy Prep would lead at halftime 15-4. The Lakers would be held scoreless the rest of the game as Navy Prep outscored them 12-0 in the second half as Finger Lakes would fall 27-4. Tucker Jensen recorded 15 saves for the Lakers and Cullen Smith added five saves in relief duty.
The Lakers will return to the field this weekend. Their matchup with Brookdale Community College has been cancelled on Saturday, but the Lakers will still take on Army Prep on Sunday in West Point, NY. The game is scheduled to start at 1pm.
