Lakers Take Down Hornets

CANANDAIGUA, NY--The Finger Lakes men's lacrosse team beat Broome Community College by a score of 13-10. The Lakers scored 19 seconds into the game to take the lead and led for the remainder of the game.

The Lakers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and only gave up two goals in the first quarter. The score at the end of the first quarter was 4-2. To start the second quarter, the Hornets and Lakers each scored putting the Lakers up 5-3. From there the Lakers scored the next 5 and controlled possession for most of the quarter. At the half the score was 11-4 in favor of Finger Lakes.

In the third quarter, each team would only score a goal a piece. Going into the final quarter the Lakers were in control at 12-5. The Hornets made a late push scoring 5 goals in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough and the Lakers prevailed by a score of 13-10.

Ralph Taliento led the offense with 3 goals. Matt Scharr and Joshua Spence had two goals a piece, and Scharr continued to have a strong offensive showing with 4 assists. Corey Grace, Zach Rink, Nikko Nolletti, Brandon Grace, Matt Youngs, and Zak Bussey each contributed a goal for the Lakers. Jake Sahrle had 12 saves.

The Lakers will face off against SUNY Delhi on Sunday, April 13th at Hartwick College. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
