Men's Lacrosse Gear Up for 2017 Season

The Finger Lakes Community College Men's Lacrosse team is set to kick off another season following their impressive 2016 season. Last year the Lakers finished their season going 11-9, including a first time appearance in the NJCAA Region III semifinals. The Lakers seek similar results in 2017 as Dave Stein, the 2016 recipient of NJCAA national Coach of the Year award, will lead them through yet another season.

The Lakers will have one returning sophomore from the attacking force Alex Chiara. Previously in the 2016 season Chiara scored 43 goals and added five assists for the Lakers.

Our returning midfielders Zakk Mount (Captain) and Ethan Bakogiannis (Captain) each started 21 games for the Lakers last season. Zakk Mount finished with 26 goals and 14 assists, while Ethan Bakogiannis added 36 goals and 34 assists for the Lakers.

Alex Freije, the Lakers defensive captain, will return to the Lakers along with Matt Beniamino, Michael Alexander, and Devan Drake. Alex Freije finished with 37 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls, while Michael Alexander finished with 30 ground balls and three assists for the Lakers. Devan Drake and Matt Beniamino played in four games for the Lakers in the 2016 season.

In addition to the seven sophomore returners the Lakers have brought on seven new athletes. Among them are attackmen Austin Andryshak (Captain), Garrison Kuhl, and Tate Stewart. Hunter Seaward, Dustin Ayers, and Josh Zugnoni will join Mount and Bakogiannis on Midfield. Ryan Haskins, a freshman goalie, will join the Lakers defense the season.

The Lakers will kick off their season this Saturday, February 25 against Howard Community College.
