Penn Yan, NY -- The Finger Lakes Community College men's lacrosse team dropped their season opener against Howard Community College on Saturday, February 25. The contest ended with a score of 27-12.
The Lakers began Saturday's game slow in the first quarter, allowing the Dragons to jump out to a quick 5-0 lead. The Lakers began showing signs of life late in the first after Austin Andryshak scored the first goal for Finger Lakes. He was assisted by Dustin Ayers. The Lakers would score a second time before the end of the first off the stick of freshman Tate Stewart. However, the Dragons would add on another five goals before the quarter ended.
The Following two quarters would be evenly matched. The Lakers were able to score four goals in the second quarter, while the Dragons would put up five goals. In the third, each team would score five additional goals. By the end of the third quarter, the Lakers would be down 20-11. The Final quarter would be all Howard, as they scored seven times while holding our offense to just one.
Austin Andryshak would lead the Lakers, on Saturday, with a hat trick and two assists. Tate Stewart also finished with a hat trick and one assists. Ethan Bakogiannis and Zakk Mount both finished with two goals apiece. Hunter Seaword would finish with one goal and two assists. Alex Chiara would score the final goal for the Lakers.
The Lakers will remain at home for their next contest on Saturday, March 4 when they host Delaware Technical Community College. The game is scheduled for 12p.m..
