The Finger Lakes Community College lacrosse team came up short in yesterday's Region III contest against the Monroe Community College Tribunes. The 14-9 loss puts the Lakers at 2-3 on the season.
Tuesday's match-up was an exciting one. Sophomore captain Ethan Bakogiannis put the Lakers up early, scoring the first two goals of the contest. He was assisted once by Josh Zugnoni. The Tribunes would rally back scoring five unanswered goals against the Lakers defense. The Lakers would tally on two more goals before the completion of the first quarter, closing the gap to 5-4. Tate Stewart and Austin Andryshak were the scorers. Andryshak was assisted by Alex Chiara.
The Tribunes would tack on another five goals in the second quarter, while the Lakers would find the back of the net only twice. Zakk Mount would get both goals. He was assisted once by Dustin Ayers. The Lakers went into halftime trailing the Tribunes 10-6. The third quarter was much slower than the first half as only three total goals were scored. The Tribunes tallied two goals, while Josh Zugnoni scored the only goal for the Lakers. In the final quarter of play both teams would finish with two goals apiece. Alex Chiara and Ethan Bakogiannis scored the final goals for the Lakers as they would be defeated by the Tribunes 14-9.
The Lakers will host the Panthers from Tompkins Cortland Community College on Friday, April 7. The Mid-State Athletic Conference contest is scheduled to begin at 4pm.
