Men’s Soccer – Lakers Shutout Fulton-Montgomery at Home, 2-Nil

CANANDAIGUA – The Lakers, fresh off of a well-fought battle on 9/11 with the nation's 5th ranked team in Mohawk Valley CC (game resulted in a 1-0 road defeat for Finger Lakes), rebounded nicely this past Saturday (9/15) with a home victory over Fulton-Montgomery CC – 2-nil.

Finger Lakes (2-5-1, 1-2 MSAC) win equaled its 2nd shutout in the past 3 games. Their previous victory came against conference foes Corning CC on 9/8 at home – 5-0.  The Lakers are now 2-2-1 on their own grass this season.  

In Saturday's game, Finger Lakes received goals from Sahbaz Sabanovic (forward) and Tyler Coyle (defender).

Sabanovic's tally was his third on the season. The freshman's goal, which came at the 16-minute marker, was assisted by another freshman – Samuel Saie (forward). Saie's dime was the first of his collegiate career.

Coyle scored the game's other goal at minute 70. His score, which was the first of his collegiate career, was assisted by Christian Kissel (defender). Kissel's assist was his first of 2012.

Overall on offense, the Lakers outshot their opponents – 18-6. Finger Lakes was exceptional at limiting pressure in their own zone in the afternoon matchup. They did an excellent job of containing Fulton's offenders throughout the length of the game.

In net, sophomore Shane Bly delivered another solid outing for Finger Lakes. He capped off the Laker victory with 5 saves.

Finger Lakes will look to build upon Saturday's W today when it takes on Erie CC at home at 4:00 p.m.
