CANANDAIGUA -- The Finger Lakes Men's Soccer team fell to nationally ranked Cayuga Community College on Saturday by the score of 2-0. The loss was the Lakers first in Mid-State Athletic Conference play and they are 6-5 on the season.
Cayuga got out to a fast start against the Lakers on Saturday. The Spartans scored the game's first goal in the 6th minute and followed it up with a second goal in the 30th minute. The half was a physical matchup with a combined 14 fouls and 2 yellow cards. Cayuga carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The second half was an even matchup between the two teams. Finger Lakes outshot the Spartans 8-3 in the half. The Lakers best chance came in the 73rd minute when Kaleb Schaner hit a volley with top spin from the top of the box. The ball dipped beneath the crossbar, but was handled by the Cayuga keeper for the save. The shot by Schaner was the Lakers best attempt at net as they went on to fall to Cayuga 2-0.
The Lakers will face Jefferson Community College on Wednesday at 7pm in Watertown, NY. The game is the start of a three-week roadtrip for the Lakers.
