CANANDAIGUA -- The Finger Lakes Men's Soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Roberts Wesleyan College's JV team on Saturday. The Lakers are now 7-8-2 on the season.
The game started slowly with both teams feeling out the pace of the game. The Lakers took advantage of a Redhawks foul in the 24th minute. Zach Stedman finished his shot for his first career goal and an 1-0 Laker lead. Stedman was assisted on the goal by sophomore Gerald Tan. Brian Arcara made save in the final couple seconds and the Lakers held a 1-0 lead at the half.
Roberts Wesleyan came out strong in the second half. The Lakers defense held and used the counter attack to their advantage. Both Paul Palmgreen and Kyle Daly had quality scoring chances on the break, but Palmgreen's shot was saved and Daly slid the ball just left of the net to keep the game at 1-0. Corey Nash also saw a quality scoring chance in the box, but his header sailed just over the crossbar. Roberts would tie the game however in the 80th minute. Neither team was able to record a shot on goal in the final 10 minutes of play and the game finished in a 1-1 tie.
Finger Lakes will play in their final game of the regular season this Wednesday. The Lakers will host Fulton-Montgomery at 4pm.
