CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Men’s Soccer team won a tough one in overtime against the Jefferson Community College Cannoneers on Wednesday. The Lakers won 3-2.
It was a hot game for the Lakers and the Cannoneers. The heat didn’t seem to get to them though, it was a hard fought battle by both teams. There was no score in the first half of the game. The Lakers did out-shoot the Cannoneers 14-6, but could not finish one.
The second half was when the game really started to pick up. Just minutes in, Derek McArthur scored the first goal of the game assisted by Raquan Hinds. The second goal of the game was scored by Cannoneer’s Tanner Docteur, and was assisted by Edward Goodall. Soon after, Aaron Zehr scored another goal for the Cannoneers pushing them in the lead. Determined to find the lead again, McArthur found the back of the net for the second Laker goal of the game. He went unassisted on his second of the game. Neither the Lakers, nor the Cannoneers could finish off the game in regulation time so they went into overtime.
Soon after overtime started, the Lakers made their finishing goal. Hinds scored his first of the game assisted by Gabriel Mendoza. It was a great effort. The Lakers now move their record to 5-6 overall on their season.
Game leaders for the Lakers were MacArthur with 2 goals, Hinds with one goal and one assist, and goal keeper Brayden Kane with 5 saves.
The Lakers play again on Saturday, September 30th against the Corning Community College Red Barons. Their game will start at 1:00pm at home. The Lakers look to improve their record to an even 6-6.
