David Garcia will be entering his first season in 2012 with the Lakers as assistant coach. Garcia, bringing with him sixteen years of coaching experience to the Lakers sidelines, will work individually with players by assessing their skill sets while striving to develop the team's roster into a winning product on the field. His goal is to improve each player’s technical abilities through assisting in team drills at practices while incorporating programs that will aid in sustaining a consistent training regimen.
Garcia’s coaching resume consists of an array of experiences at several different levels. He has coached a range of age groups from ages 8 to 18 years old at the recreational and elite youth soccer levels in Region 1. His current coaching stint with the New York West Premier Soccer (U10-U18) team accounts for his longest tenure (16 years) position of his career at any level. During his time with the New York West, he eclipsed a pair of New York West State Championship titles. Prior to his New York West coaching days, Garcia endured an eleven year stretch of coaching the Rochester Futbol Club (U6-U18) Premier Soccer team. In addition, he led the Harley Allendale Columbia High School men’s soccer team to a championship victory in his only season at the institution.
Garcia has also spent time directing coaching and player development. He has delivered three years of directing coaching and player development for the Brockport Soccer club team (U6-U18) as well as two years directing player development at the Calloway United Soccer Academy.
Aside from coaching and working as a director in soccer, Garcia is an active participant of the sport, having played it since the age of 5. Growing up in Mexico, he consistently played for premier youth teams. After his youth playing career, Garcia played collegiately at ITESM College in Mexico. He was a member of the 1985 Cruz Azul football club (a member of the Premier Division in Mexico). In addition, Garcia has played semi-professional soccer at the first, second, and third divisional levels. He currently plays in the Rochester Adult District Soccer League.
Garcia is a 1986 graduate of ITESM College in Mexico with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. He currently resides in Henrietta, New York. Garcia has two sons, ages 20 and 22.
