Softball – Lady Lakers Drop Road Doubleheader To Columbia-Greene
HUDSON, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lady Lakers dropped a road doubleheader this afternoon to the Columbia-Greene Community College Lady Twins (18-6), 12-2 (game one) and 8-6 (game two).
Game One Summary and Recap: The Lady Lakers offense was held in check as they registered just five hits. The Lady Twins pitching and hitting was exceptional throughout the entire game. Columbia-Greene starter Carissa Phillips hurled five innings worth of work on the mound on route to the victory.
Game One Individual Highlights: Sarah Roza (Rochester, NY) and Tamara Robertson (Farmington, NY) each registered 2 for 2 games with their bats for Finger Lakes. Along with her two hits, Robertson drove in both Lady Laker runs.
Cassidy Smyers (Wellsville, NY) added one hit for Finger Lakes.
Game Two Summary and Recap: The Lady Lakers displayed a solid hitting attack in a tough two-run loss. They finished the game with a total of eight hits. Finger Lakes also received a quality start out of pitcher Kristyn Maleski (Waterloo, NY). She went the distance on the mound, pitching all seven innings. Despite Maleski's valuable pitching effort, it was the Lady Twins starter, Alyssa VanAlphen, who came away with the victory. VanAlphen threw a complete game, earning her first win on the mound this season.
Game Two Individual Highlights: The Lady Lakers eight hits consisted of four individual two-hit efforts out of Jeri Baker (Harrisville, NY), Kayla Kline (Seneca Falls, NY), Amalia Dolley (Horseheads, NY), and Samantha German (Horseheads, NY).
Baker went a perfect 2 for 2 from the plate.
Kline and Dolley both went 2 for 3 from the dish.
German finished her two-hit game by going 2 for 4 with her bat.
Maleski tallied seven strikeouts in the losing effort.
Upcoming Games: Finger Lakes will play its next six games at home, starting with conference foes Corning Community College (16-12) on Monday (4/30). They will play Corning in an afternoon doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 3:00 pm.
