Softball – Finger Lakes Drops Pair Of Home Games To Corning
CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lady Lakers dropped a home doubleheader this afternoon to the Corning Community College Lady Red Barons (18-12), 9-1 (game one, six innings) and 10-3 (game two).
Game One Summary and Recap: The Lady Red Barons held the Lady Lakers in check offensively thanks to a strong pitching performance by starter Nicole Sutryk. Sutryk delivered five strong innings by striking out nine while walking no hitters and allowing just one earned run.
Finger Lakes Game One Individual Highlights: Samantha German (Horseheads, NY) and Jeri Baker (Harrisville, NY) each registered one hit apiece. German finished the game by going 1 for 2 from the plate. Baker delivered a 1 for 3 showing from the dish and also added one run scored.
Game Two Summary and Recap: Corning received another solid outing on the mound from its starting rotation. This time it was Sammi Moffe who kept Finger Lakes bats in check. Moffe pitched all seven innings, finishing the game with seven strikeouts and just one walk on five hits. All three Lady Laker runs were earned.
Finger Lakes Game Two Individual Highlights: Baker was the only team member to register more than one hit. She went 2 for 3 with her bat with one run scored.
German, Emily Essom (Fairport, NY), and Tamara Robertson (Farmington, NY) each went 1 for 3 from the plate. German added one run scored and also produced one RBI to go along with her hit.
Upcoming Games: Finger Lakes will be back in action on Tuesday (5/1) at home, where they will take on Hudson Valley Community College (10-9) in a late afternoon doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is slated to be thrown at 3:00 pm.
