Softball – Lady Lakers Sweep Home Doubleheader Behind Pair Of Marra Wins

CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lady Lakers swept a home doubleheader this afternoon with the Hudson Valley Community College Lady Vikings (10-11), 15-10 (game one) and 7-2 (game two). The game one victory contained a balanced hitting attack by the Lady Lakers. The game two win for Finger Lakes came as a result of a strong pitching effort that it received out of starter Shelby Marra (Spencerport, NY). Marra went the distance on the mound in both games, earning a pair of victories.

Game One Summary: The Lady Vikings couldn't match the intensity and drive that the Lady Lakers bats brought to the diamond. Finger Lakes slugged their way around the yard in the opener. They received several multi-hit games from five of their players along with an ample amount of production out of the rest of their lineup.

Lady Lakers Game One Individual Highlights: The trio of Cassidy Smyers (Wellsville, NY), Kayla Kline (Seneca Falls, NY), and Nicole Taylor (Shortsville, NY) combined for a total of nine hits in the win for Finger Lakes.

Smyers finished the game 3 for 4 from the plate with two RBI's and two runs scored.

Kline went 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Two of her hits were for extra bases, both of which were doubles.

Taylor's three-hit effort resulted in a 3 for 5 game from the dish. She also produced a pair of RBI's and scored one run.

Jeri Baker (Harrisville, NY) and Tamara Robertson (Farmington, NY) each added to the Lady Lakers hitting attack by contributing two hits apiece.

Baker produced a 2 for 4 game with her bat with three RBI's and two runs scored.

Robertson went 2 for 3 with one RBI and one run scored.

Game Two Summary: The focal point of the game was the gem of an outing that Marra threw on the hill. She established the strike zone early on in the first inning, showing no fatigue from her game one start. Hudson Valley was held to just seven hits in the nightcap. Overall, Finger Lakes produced when they needed to with their sticks and performed well in the field with their gloves all while receiving solid pitching out of their starter.
