Softball – Lady Lakers Drop Doubleheader To #10 Nationally Ranked MCC
ROCHESTER, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lady Lakers dropped a road doubleheader this afternoon to the #10 nationally ranked Monroe Community College Lady Tribunes (26-16), 18-0 (game one, 5 innings) and 13-6 (game two).
Game One Summary – The Lady Tribunes dominated the opener by executing solid hitting and pitching. Monroe delivered a total of 19 hits as a team. Along with their strong hitting, the Lady Tribunes also received ample run production out of their lineup in the win. Nicole Clements earned the victory on the mound for Monroe. The Lady Lakers mustered up just 5 hits as a team in the losing effort.
Lady Lakers Game One Individual Highlights – Jeri Baker (Harrisville, NY) led the team in hitting with 2 hits (2 for 3).
Tamara Robertson (Farmington, NY), Cassidy Smyers (Wellsville, NY), and Sarah Roza (Rochester, NY) each added one hit apiece for Finger Lakes.
Game Two Summary – The Lady Tribunes continued to perform strong offensively as they slugged 18 hits in the nightcap. Monroe also received another solid pitching effort out of their starter. This time it was Holly Conte who notched the victory for the Lady Tribunes. Despite the loss, the Lady Lakers bats came to life as they pounded out 11 hits.
Lady Lakers Game Two Individual Highlights – Smyers, Baker, Samantha German (Horseheads, NY), and Shealena Marnell (Moravia, NY) each collected 2 hits apiece. Smyers went a perfect 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored from the plate while Baker, German, and Marnell each turned in 2 for 3 games with their bats. Baker added 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored to go along with her hits.
Emily Essom (Fairport, NY), Roza, and Robertson each contributed one hit apiece for Finger Lakes.
Upcoming Games: The Lady Lakers will conclude their season tomorrow on the road when they travel to Delhi, NY to take on SUNY Delhi (14-12) in an afternoon doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is slated to be thrown at 1:00 pm.
