Lady Lakers Split Pair of Games on Wednesday in South Carolina
MYRTLE BEACH, SC. – The Lady Lakers split a pair of contests on Wednesday down south. They fell in the opener to Mohawk Valley CC 4-1, but rebounded with a win over Massasoit CC 6-3 in the nightcap. The victory against Massasoit was Finger Lakes (1-5) first of the young season.
In a losing effort in game one, freshman sensation Rachel Mertens continued her solid all-around play. The starting pitcher accumulated 10 strikeouts on the rubber and in addition was 1 for 2 from the plate. Samantha German and Katie Plummer each added one hit apiece as well for the Lady Lakers. German's hit was marked as a solo home run.
In a winning effort against Massasoit, German led Finger Lakes in the box score in hitting as she produced a 3 for 4 game at the dish to go along with an RBI. Catcher Taylor Briggs supplied the Lady Lakers with a hit and an RBI. On the mound, Finger Lakes received a quality outing out of first-year starter Elaina Evinsky. The flamethrower picked up her first win of her college career by striking out six Lady Warriors all while allowing just five hits.
Finger Lakes is back in action today. This morning, they took on conference foe Onondaga CC at 9 am, and are slated to matchup with Alfred State College following its contest with the Lady Lazers.
