Lady Lakers End Spring Break Trip by splitting a pair of Games

MYRTLE BEACH, SC. – The Lady Lakers, on the final day of their spring break trip down south, took a split in a pair of contests. In an early morning game against conference foe Onondaga CC, Finger Lakes fell 7-0. Following their meeting with OCC, the Lady Lakers rebounded nicely by conquering a 10-6 win over Alfred State College. The split put Finger Lakes record at 2-6 (0-1) on the season.

In a losing effort against OCC, Rachel Mertens led the Lady Lakers both on the mound as well as inside the batters box. The Syracuse, NY native posted a 7-strikeout outing on the hill all while going 2 for 3 from the plate. Adding a pair of 1 for 2 showings with their sticks for Finger Lakes were Elaina Evinsky and Courtney Edger.

In the final game of their long drive down to Myrtle Beach, the Lady Lakers posted double-digits in the runs column as they received a great performance out of their batting order against Alfred State. Samantha German and Evinsky whacked two and three-run homers respectively for Finger Lakes.

Freshman Katie Plummer racked up a flawless 3 for 3 game from the plate for the Lady Lakers. In addition, she scored three runs and tagged on an RBI in the win. Finger Lakes second-year outfielder Tamara Robertson contributed a pair of hits along with an RBI. She finished the contest by going 2 for 3 from the dish.

Evinsky, along with her offensive production, paced the Lady Lakers in the pitching department. As the winning hurler, the product of Spencerport High School fanned 11 members of Alfred State's roster on Thursday. Finger Lakes two victories in the early portion of the 2013 season both have come with Evinsky standing in as the starting pitcher.

The Lady Lakers will now take a weeklong hiatus from game action. They will return to the diamond on Thursday, Mar. 28 for a home season opening doubleheader. On that day, Finger Lakes is scheduled to take on No. 8 nationally ranked Monroe CC beginning at 3:00 pm.
