By Alex Pagliano
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College softball team will play their second consecutive home doubleheader on Tuesday, as the Lakers will host Niagara County Community College. The first pitch of the doubleheader will be thrown at approximately 3p.m.
The Lakers and the Thunderwolves met twice during the course of the 2012 season. The Thunderwolves took both games, 2-0 and 12-3, respectively.
The Lakers enter tomorrow's contest riding their first three-game win streak since May of 2009. The Lakers took both games from Clinton Community College on Sunday, and took the nightcap from Genesee Community College on April 9.
Over the brief win streak, Samantha German has provided some pop at the plate. The sophomore has posted a .300 average with a team-high six runs batted in. Freshmen Rachel Mertens and Elaina Evinsky have proven to be quite the tandem in consecutive games this season. Over her past two decisions, Mertens has recorded a 3.00 ERA with one win and 13 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched. Evinsky, on the other hand, has notched two victories, recording a 2.76 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched.
Niagara County Community College enters tomorrow's contest with a 5-5 record. Freshman Charlene Cinelli leads the team with a .488 batting average. Sophomore Kelly Bourque has won four of the team's five games on the mound, sporting a 3.20 earned run average in 35 innings pitched.
