Lady Lakers Lose Pair of Games to Onondaga

SYRACUSE, NY. – The Lady Lakers fell to the Onondaga CC Lazers on Saturday on the road 16-12 and 10-2. The losses dropped Finger Lakes record to 7-16 (0-6 MSAC).

The Lady Lakers, in game one, came out swinging as they batted around the order in the top of the first inning. There first eight batters opened the game a perfect 8 for 8 from the plate. Rachel Mertens led off the first game with a single. After Mertens reached base, Courtney Edger, Samantha German, Tamara Robertson, Katie Plummer, Nicole Taylor, Taylor Briggs, and Elaina Evinsky each registered consecutive hits. After reaching base, all eight players would cross the plate before the first out was made in the inning.

After batting around, Mertens, who went 2 for 2 in the first, crossed the plate for the second time in the inning to make the score in favor of Finger Lakes 9-0.

The Lady Lazers would strike back in the bottom half of the first with five runs to close their deficit to 9-5. The Lady Lakers would score their tenth run of the game in the fourth, but would be responded to by six Onondaga runs in the fifth. The Lady Lazers six runs would give them an 11-10 edge.

After trailing 11-10, Finger Lakes would rediscover the lead in the sixth as it would score two runs to go ahead 12-11. After going up a run, the Lady Lakers would allow Onondaga to score a combined five runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The five runs would give the Lady Lazers a 16-12 lead, which would hold up for the remainder of the contest.

In the losing effort, Finger Lakes received a pair of 3 for 4 performances from Mertens and Plummer. To go along with her hits, Plummer drove in 2 runs. Contributing two hits and three runs for the Lady Lakers was German.   

Mertens, in addition to her hitting, pitched all seven innings on the mound for Finger Lakes.

In the nightcap, the Lady Lakers would strike first again on the scoreboard as they put up two runs in the third to go ahead 2-0. Onondaga, after FLCC's runs, would score 10 unanswered runs before winning 10-2.

In the finale, German discovered the two-hit column once again. Joining her with a two-hit showing was Evinsky.

On the hill, Evinsky launched five innings worth of work for Finger Lakes.
