CANANDAIGUA — Sophomore Jenna Pedro (Oakfield, N.Y./Elba) went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and classmate Peyton Wyjad (Macedon, N.Y./Gananda) was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored as the Finger Lakes Community College softball team ran its winning streak to six with a 9-6 win over Hudson Valley Community College Thursday.
The Lakers (7-18, 7-12 Region III) scored in four of the six innings, including scoring three runs in the first and sixth innings to take Game 1 vs. Hudson Valley CC.
A persistent rain storm caused the cancellation of Game 2.
Freshman Jenna Theilen (Arkport, N.Y./Arkport), the reigning NJCAA Region III co-Player of the Week, was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, extending her hitting streak to 12 games in the win.
Sophomore Michaela Anderson (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, and classmate Madison Joseph (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) drove in a pair of runs and stole a base for the Lakers.
Freshman Jessica Williams (Belfast, N.Y./Belfast) earned the win, allowing four runs (three earned) for her fifth win of the year.
Wyjad hit an RBI single and Joseph added a two-run single during the first as FLCC took an early 3-1 lead. Pedro belted a two-run triple in the fourth for a 5-1 Laker lead, and Wyjad added a two-run triple and Anderson drove in a run on a sixth-inning groundout to complete the scoring.
The Lakers return to action with a Sophomore Day doubleheader Saturday afternoon. FLCC welcomes Genesee Community College to campus, with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
