The Finger Lakes Community College Softball Team is prepared to begin another season. The Lakers had a successful 2016 season going 16-26, including a six game winning streak. Their head coach, Sam Pierce, is entering her sixth season with the Lakers. Aspiring similar results from the previous season Pierce will lead the Lakers as they approach their 2017 season.
Sophomore Amanda Albino is a returning starting outfielder for the Lakers. Previously in her 2016 season Albino finished with a .722 fielding percentage, and out of her 32 games played she accumulated 14 RBI’s and 17 runs. Joining Albino in the outfield will be returning sophomore Ashely Gayhart, who was a designated hitter for the Lakers in 2016.
Returning sophomores for the Laker’s infield are Madison Joseph, Michaela Anderson, and Peyton Wyjad. Joseph finished her 42 games played with a .972 fielding percentage, 23 runs, and 29 RBI’s. Anderson completed her 39 games with a .369 batting average, 25 runs, and 26 RBI’s. Wyjad finished her season with 39 games played, a .369 batting average, 21 runs, and 26 RBI’s for the Lakers.
In addition to the four returning sophomores the Lakers have brought on eight new athletes. Shannon Mowry and Jenna Pedro will be joining Amanda Albino in the Lakers out field. The Lakers pitching and utility players will consist of Jessica Williams, Michelle Richardson, Anna Dickens, Taryn Torbitt, and Caitlin Murney. Freshman Jenna Theilen has been named the Lakers catcher for the 2017 season.
The Lakers will tip off their season during spring break in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
