Strait and McCauley Earn All-Conference Team Honors
CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The 2012 National Junior College Athletic Association Region III Division III All-Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC) women's basketball team selectees have been announced. The Finger Lakes Community College Lady Lakers are proud to announce that Cassandra Strait (Dundee, NY) and Kelli McCauley (Irondequoit, NY) have been selected to this team. Strait and McCauley, both freshman guards, each assembled outstanding seasons in conference play. Their play helped lead the Lady Lakers to a 6-7 record in the MSAC.
Strait was the top scorer in the MSAC, averaging 21.7 points per game (in 12 games played). She also placed in the top 10 for three other statistical categories in the conference. These categories included assists (3rd), free-throw percentage (3rd) and field-goal percentage (7th). On the season, Strait averaged 4.2 assists per game, shot 81 percent from the free-throw line, and was a 44.9 percent shooter from the field.
McCauley finished 5th in scoring in the MSAC by averaging 18.3 points per game (in 12 games played). She also placed in the top ten for two other statistical categories in the conference. These categories included three-point field-goal percentage (6th) and free-throw percentage (7th). On the season, she shot 30.1 percent from the three-point line and 69 percent from the free-throw line.
In addition to having successful seasons in conference play, both players were selected MSAC Players of the Week (one time each) for the weeks of January 23rd (Strait) and February 6th (McCauley).
