McCauley’s 24 Points Leads Lady Lakers to Conference Road Win
WATERTOWN, NY. – Kelli McCauley and her game-high/season-high 24 points led the Lady Lakers to their 8th conference victory of the season on Saturday. In a road matchup with Jefferson CC, Finger Lakes CC conquered a 63-51 win yesterday. The Lady Lakers – with the win – swept their regular season series with the Lady Cannoneers in 2012-13. Finger Lakes now stands at 8-1 in the MSAC and is 12-10 overall.
The Lady Lakers – behind McCauley's solid offensive day – outscored Jefferson in both half's of the contest. They took half one – 37-26. The Lady Cannoneers – despite falling – hung around in the game in the second half. In the final 20 minutes, Finger Lakes outscored the hosts by a slim difference of 26-25.
McCauley – on the afternoon – showcased the hottest shooting hand on the gym floor. In 33 minutes, the sophomore guard was 8-13 from the field. Half of her field goals came from beyond the arc where she was 4-6 on the day. Her four three's were a game-high. In addition to her scoring, she was a flawless 4-4 from the free throw line.
Adding a pair of double-doubles for the Lady Lakers were Casi Strait and Jordan Smith. Strait – who played in every single second of Saturday's contest –supplied Finger Lakes with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Her 18 points came with a perfect 8-8 day from the free throw line.
Smith – in 36 minutes – registered 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Strait – in addition to her scoring and rebounding – shared game-high honors with teammate Julia Pagano in the assists' column. Both Strait and Pagano dished out 7 assists apiece.
Pagano added 8 rebounds and a game-high 9 steals to go along with her assists.
Jefferson – in a losing effort – received a team-high 19 points out of Morgan Kiernan. The freshman point guard – who played in all 40 minutes – pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds and was a perfect 11-11 from the charity stripe. She accounted for each of Jefferson's made free throws on the day.
Following Kiernan in the scoring column for the Lady Cannoneers was Jasmine Canady. In 36 minutes, the forward scored 16 points all while recording team-highs in assists (5) and steals (3).
In 40 minutes worth of basketball – the Lady Lakers outshot Jefferson – 34% to 27%. Finger Lakes – as a team – was 15-18 (83%) from the free throw line while Jefferson – as a unit – shot 79% (11-14) from the line.
Finger Lakes will now turn its attention to its next opponent – the Genesee CC Lady Cougars. In the non-conference meeting – which is set to take place this Tuesday (2/5) on the Lady Cougars grounds – the Lady Lakers will look to add to their current three-game win streak when the ball drops at 7:00 p.m.
