Strait Named Women’s Basketball Co-MSAC Player of the Week

CANANDAIGUA – Lady Lakers standout shooting guard – sophomore Casi Strait – for the second time this season – has been named Mid-State Athletic Conference Player of the Week. This week, she shares the honor with Kaitlynne Knapp – an Onondaga CC sophomore center. Over the past week, Strait – in a pair of Finger Lakes CC contests – both of which resulted in Lady Laker victories – combined to score 52 points all while recording 13 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals.

In Finger Lakes most recent game on 2/9 – the Dundee, NY product delivered 17 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals in a Lady Lakers 71-52 conference home win over Corning CC. Prior to her performance against Corning – Strait – in a 76-68 FLCC non-conference road win over Division II Genesee CC – scored a game, season and career-high 35 points on 13-20 shooting. In addition to her scoring against the Lady Cougars – the elite scorer produced 7 rebounds and 4 steals.

Strait – who was named MSAC Player of the Week for the week of 1/14, is currently tied for second in the conference in scoring. In 10 conference games, she is averaging 20 points per game. In addition to her scoring – Strait – who was 13-16 from the free throw line in these two victories – is second in the MSAC in free throw percentage. From the line, she is shooting 86% in conference play.

Strait has been the Lady Lakers go to scorer all season long. She has helped lead Finger Lakes to a 14-10 record overall up to this point. The Lady Lakers, who are 11-1 in their last 12 games, have benefited greatly from her offensive production. On the season, Strait is 4th and 5th in the nation respectively in scoring and free throw percentage. Overall, she is averaging 19.8 points per game in 24 games and is shooting 84% from the charity stripe.
