McCauley’s 30 Points Leads FLCC into Final Round of Conference Tournament
SYRACUSE, NY. – #2 Finger Lakes CC erased a seven-point halftime deficit last night in its MSAC semi-final pairing with #3 Jefferson CC by outscoring the Lady Cannoneers in the second half by thirty points to grab an 82-59 victory. The game – which was held on the campus of Onondaga CC – was a tale of two half's.
Jefferson took a 36-29 lead heading into intermission – but – it would be the Lady Lakers who would hold onto the final lead of the game as they would outscore the Lady Cannoneers in the second half by a difference of 53-23.
Finger Lakes would earn the victory in Friday's conference playoff game behind a team-wide 47 percent shooting effort. Its top three scorers shot 47 percent or better. Leading the shooting and scoring department's for the Lady Lakers was Kelli McCauley. In 39 minutes – the sophomore guard – on 11-20 shooting – registered a game-high 30 points. 3 of her 11 field goals were had from three-point land.
Following McCauley with 18-point and 15-point efforts respectively on the scoring charts for Finger Lakes were Casi Strait and Casey Dean. Strait recorded her 18 points on 8-17 shooting while Dean – in 33 minutes – was 7-14 from the floor.
McCauley – in addition to her scoring – dished out a game-high 7 assists all while notching a team-high 3 steals. Strait – to go along with her points – doled out 5 assists all while pulling down 7 rebounds.
Adding 8 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Lady Lakers was sophomore forward Jordan Smith.
Jefferson – in a losing effort – received 24 points and 11 rebounds (both of which were team-highs) from Jasmine Canady. Contributing 12-point and 10-point night's respectively for the Lady Cannoneers were Morgan Kiernan and Tapulei Vaveao.
With the victory, the Lady Lakers will now play in the conference championship game today against #1 Onondaga CC. The game – which will take place on OCC's gym floor – will get underway at 12:00 p.m.
