Michelle Broderick '16 Named Outstanding Scholar Athlete

CANANDAIGUA — Michelle M. Broderick '16, an academic standout for the Finger Lakes Community College softball and women's basketball team, was named FLCC Outstanding Scholar Athlete for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Each year, FLCC recognizes the academic achievements of a student-athlete from the previous year who achieved the highest grade-point average while participating on an intercollegiate athletic team.

The Outstanding Scholar Athlete recognizes someone who demonstrates academic excellence, athletic ability, leadership qualities, enthusiasm for learning, and a drive to accomplish goals.

Broderick, a graduate of nearby Canandaigua Academy, averaged 5.3 points per game during her two seasons (47 games) on the hardwood. She was a team captain for both basketball and softball while earning a spot on the school's honor roll.

A human services major, Broderick received the Team First Award for women's basketball. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in special education at SUNY Brockport. Her career goal is to become an elementary school teacher.

She is at least the second Broderick to earn the Outstanding Scholar Athlete award at FLCC, as older sister Kelly Broderick '14, the current head women's basketball coach, earned the award for the 2013-14 academic year.
