The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team will advance to the NJCAA Region III Championships after defeating the Lazers from Onondaga Community College in the semifinals on Saturday, March 4. The 66-59 victory marks the first time, in four meetings this season, that the Lakers were able to defeat the Lazers.
The Lazers took an early 24-15 lead over the Lakers in the first quarter of Saturday's contest. However, the Lakers would go on a 15-5 run to go up 30-29 going into halftime. The second half of Saturday's game was controlled by the Lakers as they outscored Onondaga 15-12 in the third, and 21-18 in the fourth.
Three Lakers led the scoring on Saturday. Freshman Janae Brannon and sophomores Megan Howell and Krystal Hunter scored 15 points apiece for Finger Lakes. Megan McAllister finished with nine points against the Lazers.
Today, March 5 the Lady Lakers will play the Hawks from Mohawk Valley Community College for the NJCAA Region III Championship. Tipoff is scheduled for 1pm.
