The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team fell to the Hawks from Mohawk Valley Community College on Sunday, March 5. In the NJCAA Region III Championship the Hawks defeated the Lakers 61-46.
Both teams battled hard at the start of Sundays contest. The Lakers were able to hold the score close, going into the first half tied 24-24 against the Hawks. The Hawks came out in the second half and took control of the game. The Lakers were held to just 11 points in each of the remaining quarters, while the Hawks poured on 37 points to clinch victory.
Ranaveya Richards led the Lakers with 18 points, five assists, and three rebounds. Megan Howell finished with 12 points and one rebound. Janae Brannon added seven points, four steals, and 10 rebounds for the Lakers. Krystal Hunter would round out the Lakers scoring six points and nine rebounds.
The Lakers finished their outstanding 2016-17 season with a 22-9 overall record and a 9-3 conference record. Even with only seven players on their roster, the Lady Lakers accomplished great things including second place finishes in both the Mid-State Athletic Conference Tournament and in the NJCAA Region III Tournament.
