Women’s Soccer – Lady Lakers Down Hudson 8-0, Carmona Nets 4 Goals

TROY, NY. – In their first road game of the 2012 season on Saturday (9/1), the Lady Lakers won convincingly after putting on what was a show offensively.

Finger Lakes (2-0-0), who entered Saturday's contest ranked third in the nation (by the NJCAA), delivered an 8-nil shutout over Hudson Valley CC. In the shutout, which was the Lady Lakers second consecutive, Finger Lakes sophomore forward Cayli Carmona dazzled the crowd with her 4-goal performance.

The Lady Lakers, leading 2-0 at halftime behind solid play out of their offense and defense, took the game to a whole new level in half number two. In that half, they did an exceptional job of applying an immense amount of pressure on Hudson's D with their star-studded field of offenders.

The remaining 4 goals notched by Finger Lakes came from 3 other players. Danielle VonHahmann, a promising freshman forward out of Geneva, NY, was credited with 2 of those goals.

The other 2 (scoring 1 goal each) went to Hannah Dalle (defender/forward) and Natasha Hyland (midfielder).

Heading the assist column with 2 each in the Lady Lakers victory were Dalle and Rebecca Giacapuzzi (forward).

Carmona, along with defenders Kayley Trayer, Kelly Broderick, and Alyssa Norman, each added 1 assist apiece for Finger Lakes.

The Lady Lakers couldn't have completed the blanking of Hudson on Saturday without receiving a quality effort from their D. Credit Samantha Burnside, Trayer, Broderick, Jeri Baker, Rachel Hefner, Norman, and Tish Collins (forward), as the crew who helped make this shutout a reality.

Also delivering a valuable game in this 8-nothing Lady Laker win was that of starting goaltender Kristy Kirkpatrick. The sophomore, who was responsible for playing a major role in Finger Lakes season opening 1-0 home win on 8/28 over Onondaga CC, tallied 5 saves in goal on Saturday.

Overall, Finger Lakes victory came as a result of a balanced attack. Its offense, which fired 27 shots on goal, made good on close to 30% of them. The Lady Lakers D was stifling as it continuously kept Hudson's offense at bay with their energy, fortitude, and speed. Finally, the W couldn't have been sealed without a valuable showing from Kirkpatrick in net. All three sectors displayed a hefty amount of cohesion over the weekend in the road win.

Like last season, Finger Lakes demonstrated why they were a force to be reckoned with in 2011 on Saturday. As the women's soccer program continues to shine amidst the grounds of FLCC, the Lady Lakers are being heard loudly around campus – in an overwhelmingly positive manner!

The Lady Lakers will look for their third consecutive victory tomorrow when they hit the road to take on Broome CC at 3:00 p.m.
