Women’s Soccer – Lady Lakers Soundly Thump Corning at Home, 13-Nil

CANANDAIGUA – The Lady Lakers came to play on Saturday (9/8).

Finger Lakes (4-0-0, 3-0-0 MSAC), the nation's second ranked team, assembled a large victory over Corning CC (conference member) over the weekend amidst their own confines by downing the Lady Red Barons – 13-0.

The win marked Finger Lakes fourth in a row to begin the season. It also marked their fourth consecutive shutout.

A team stocked full of talented athletes, the Lady Lakers displayed an over abundance of scoring on their own pitch on Saturday. In the conference matchup, Finger Lakes would discover the net nine times in the first half and would rediscover it an additional four times in half number two.

In a game where the host team fired 22 shots on goal, the Lady Lakers would make good on 59% of them. Finger Lakes made the barrage of goal scoring look rather simple in the conference contest.

The Lady Lakers onslaught of goals came from seven different players in the blowout win.

Here is a breakdown of the scoring.

Finger Lakes received a pair of hat-tricks from sophomore's Hannah Dalle (defender/forward) and Rebecca Giacapuzzi (forward).

Following Dalle and Giacapuzzi in the goal-scoring column were the likes of another pair of sophomore standouts – Cayli Carmona (forward) and Natasha Hyland (midfielder). Both offenders notched 2 goals each in the home game.

The remaining 3 goals were had (one goal each) by Dominique Berrafato, Danielle VonHahmann (both forwards) and Rachel Hefner (defender).

10 of the 13 Lady Laker goals were assisted by 5 of Finger Lakes players. The other 3 goals were unassisted.

Carmona racked up an eye-popping 5 dimes in the victory. Her 2 goals and 5 assists equaled out to a 9-point afternoon for the sophomore. She is currently tied for first in the nation in assists with 7 on the season. Additionally, she is tied for second in points with 23 and stands alone in third for goals scored with 8.    

Giacapuzzi tacked on a duo of assists on Saturday to go along with her 3 goals while Dalle added an assist to top off her hat-trick of goals. Giacapuzzi and Dalle each finished the day with 8 and 7 points respectively. Dalle is currently tied for third in the nation in assists with 5 and in addition is tied for sixth in both goals scored (5) and points (15).   

Hyland and VonHahmann each contributed one assist apiece in addition to their goals.

Now it might seem as if the Lady Lakers offense should garner all of the praise for this sizeable win. However – don't sleep on the defense – as they deserve a solid portion of it as well. Finger Lakes D has now been on the winning end of as mentioned four consecutive shutout victories.

You can't mention the Lady Lakers defense without stating Kristy Kirkpatrick's name. The goalie once again was in net for the fourth consecutive shutout. She stood her ground in goal for all 90 minutes to the tune of 4 saves against the Lady Red Barons. Kirkpatrick currently stands tied for first in the nation in save percentage, goals against, and goals against average. She remains flawless in all three categories in terms of statistical numbers.  

Finger Lakes will now face its toughest opponent of the young season tomorrow when it travels to Utica, NY to take on the nation's third ranked team – Mohawk Valley CC. The Lady Lakers and Lady Hawks will square off at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
