Women’s Soccer – Lady Lakers Shutout Cayuga at Home, 12-Nil

CANANDAIGUA – The #2 nationally ranked Lady Lakers rebounded in a big way yesterday – just several days after falling to nationally ranked Alfred State College at home. Finger Lakes, facing the bitter elements that stuck the region on Friday, posted a 12-nil shutout over Cayuga CC (conference member) amidst its home field. The victory moved the Lady Lakers 2012 record to 15-1-1 (4-0 MSAC).

In the mid-afternoon matchup, Finger Lakes received goals from eight different players – led by a pair of Cayli Carmona and Hannah Dalle hat tricks. In addition to her trio of goals, Carmona also contributed three assists. She remains atop of the nation in scoring (points, goals scored, and assists,) with 88 points (29 goals and 30 assists). Her 30 assists stand as the most ever for any season in the history of the women's soccer program at FLCC. Dalle's helpers now give her 22 for the season.

The Lady Lakers other 6 goals came from a slew of players. Supplying one goal each in the win for FLCC were Sonia Gucciardo, Rebecca Giacapuzzi, Paige Smith, Lauren Maynard, Danielle VonHahmann, and Rachel Hefner. Gucciardo and Maynard each tacked on one assist apiece to go along with their markers.

Natasha Hyland and Kelly Broderick added to Finger Lakes offense by registering one assist apiece.

Overall, the Lady Lakers outshot Cayuga – 31-4 – in the conference contest. Credit Kristy Kirkpatrick as the game-winning goalie. The sophomore turned in 4 saves in 90 minutes worth of action on Friday.

With the loss, the Lady Spartans dropped to 1-13 on the season. They will play next on Tuesday (10/16) when they are slated to take on Niagara County CC on the road.

Finger Lakes will remain at home for its next pairing. They will host Tompkins Cortland CC tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. The game will mark the Lady Lakers final home meeting of the 2012 regular season.
