Women’s Soccer – FLCC Ends Regular Season With Road Win Over Jefferson

WATERTOWN, NY. – The #3 nationally ranked Lady Lakers finished up what would be classified as a spectacular 2012 regular season on Tuesday by closing it out with a road victory over Jefferson CC (conference member) – 6-nil.

Playing in front of a great crowd, which was on hand to support breast cancer awareness night, FLCC (17-1-1, 6-0 MSAC), who earned its 13th shutout of the season along with an MSAC championship title with the win, faced a solid opponent in the Lady Cannoneers. The visiting Lady Lakers handed Jefferson, who entered the contest with a 10-5-1 record, its sixth loss of the season. With the win, FLCC finished the regular season with both a solid road and conference record. The Lady Lakers went 7-0-1 away from their home campus all while concluding their conference schedule with a 6-0 record.

FLCC scored two of its six goals inside the first 20 minutes of the game and the remaining four in the second half. The nation's leading scorer, Lady Lakers forward Cayli Carmona, scored the game's first goal. The goal, which came at 12:27, was her 34th of the season. A Hannah Dalle helper followed Carmona's at 17:55. Dalle, who stands right behind Carmona as the nation's second leading scorer, notched a hat-trick of goals in the regular season finale for FLCC.

Discovering the Lady Cannoneers net for the third goal of the game was Rebecca Giacapuzzi. The Lady Laker scored her 12th goal of 2012 shortly after intermission – at 46:20.

Dalle was then responsible for FLCC's fourth and fifth goals. The sophomore scored her 25th and 26th goals of the season at 62:25 and 69:10. She also tacked on a pair of assists – finishing the day with a total of eight points. With her offensive outburst, Dalle wrapped up the regular season with 70 points (26 goals and 18 assists).

The game's final score came off of the shooting foot of forward Danielle VonHahmann – at 81:26. With her marker, the freshman forward finished her FLCC rookie campaign with 8 goals.  

In addition to her helper, Carmona also handed out three assists in the contest. With her four points on Tuesday, she now moves past the 100-point mark for 2012. Carmona finished the regular season with 102 points (34 goals and 34 assists).

A Lauren Maynard assist rounded out FLCC's offense.

Overall, the Lady Lakers attempted 20 shots on Jefferson's goal. The Lady Cannoneers, on the other hand, attempted seven shots on Finger Lakes goal. Scooping up and putting a stop to each of Jefferson's shots was FLCC's keeper Kristy Kirkpatrick.

In a losing effort, Jefferson's goalie Amber Dibble turned in 14 saves.

Both teams will undoubtedly be involved in postseason play. An outlook of who the Lady Lakers will take on in the beginning of the 2012 NJCAA Region III Division III playoffs, will be released on flccathletics.com later this week.
