Host of Finger Lakes Athletes Named Academic Award Winners by the NJCAA

CANANDAIGUA, NY. -- The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has proudly named five standout Finger Lakes Community College student-athletes to its 2011-12 academic student-athlete award winners list. Joining this prestigious list from Finger Lakes includes the likes of Savannah Jones (women's cross country - Rushville, NY), Annalee Mishrell (women's cross country - Hammondsport, NY), Nicholas Jasikoff (men's track and field - Ovid, NY), Parker Weeks (men's soccer and lacrosse – Canandaigua, NY) and Dave Herbert (men's cross country and track and field – Wayland, NY).

Each of these student-athletes has maintained a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.70 or higher during their academic careers at Finger Lakes. Jones, a sophomore, leads this group of distinguished student-athletes with her 3.94 cumulative GPA. In honor of her outstanding academic performance, she has been granted the (2011-12) Superior Academic Achievement Award (student has to earn a GPA of 3.80 to 3.99 on a 4.00 scale in order to qualify for this award). In addition, Jones has also been named Academic All-Region (for Region III Division III athletics) by the NJCAA for 2011-12.

Mishrell, a sophomore academically (was a freshman athletically in 2011-12), has also been awarded the (2011-12) Superior Academic Achievement Award. In addition, Mishrell has been named to the (2011-12) NJCAA Academic All-Region list. Her current (cumulative) GPA stands at 3.93.

Jasikoff, a sophomore, has been granted the (2011-12) Exemplary Academic Achievement Award (student has to earn a GPA of 3.60 to 3.79 on a 4.00 scale in order to qualify for this award). In addition, Jasikoff has been named Academic All-Region (for 2011-12). He currently holds a (cumulative) GPA of 3.74.

Weeks and Herbert, both sophomores, are also recipients of the Exemplary Academic Achievement Award. Furthermore, both athletes have been named to the Academic All-Region list. Weeks (cumulative) GPA currently stands at 3.72 while Herbert's (cumulative) GPA is currently 3.71.

Additional Athletes Have Been Named Academic All-Region by the NJCAA

In addition to the outstanding student-athletes mentioned above, four other superbly talented Finger Lakes student-athletes have also been named Academic All-Region for the 2011-12 academic year by the NJCAA. These individuals include the likes of Jessica Kaiser (women's track and field – Ovid, NY, cumulative GPA of 3.82), Julie Brooks (women's soccer and track and field – Holley, NY, cumulative GPA of 3.75), Jordan Hathorn (men's soccer – Mendon, NY, cumulative GPA of 3.57), and Cassandra Strait (women's basketball – Dundee, NY, cumulative GPA of 3.51).
