The Finger Lakes Community College women's track and field team participated in the NJCAA DIII Regional Championships at SUNY Delhi on Saturday, April 30th. The Women's team finished in 3rd place overall.
The women's 4x400 meter relay consisting of Trista Hawke, Jordan Newton, Emily Pavone and Stephanie Helzer finished in 1st place in 4:50.55 making them the Regional Champions! The same group ran in the 4x100 meter relay and finished in 2nd place in a time of 57.35 as well. Currently they are listed as the 12th and 10th fastest relay teams respectively, heading to Nationals next weekend.
With a small number of girls on the team, many student athletes participated in multiple events. Kristen Karam tossed the javelin and discus finishing in 2nd and 4th in each event throwing 24.31 meters, a personal record, and 18.83 meters respectively. Trista Hawke ran in the 100 finishing 2nd in 14.25 sec, and the 4th in the 400 meter run in 1:03.53, a 2016 season personal best. Jordan Newton, Stephanie Helzer and Amanda Boughan took 5thplace, 6th place and 7th place respectively in the 800 meter run with times of 2:50, 3:13 and 3:57 respectively.
Stephanie Helzer also took 3rd place in the 1500 meter run, finishing in 6:31. Keirsten Reid participated in the discus tossing 17.59 meters for 6th place and 16.46 meters for 7th place. Both performances were season best for Keirsten!
The women travel to Westfield State College on Friday for the NJCAA National Division III Championships to be held on Saturday and Sunday May 7th and 8th. Good luck Lakers!
