Volleyball – Lady Lakers Split Weekend Matches by Going 2-2

ALFRED, NY. – The Lady Lakers have literally won every other match that they've competed in so far this season.

Over the weekend on Saturday (9/8), Finger Lakes (5-4, 3-1 MSAC) split a series of four matches (which were all held at Alfred State College) with SUNY Adirondack, Hudson Valley CC, Fulton-Montgomery CC, and Columbia-Greene CC. All four matches were a best-of-five series.  

In the opener, the Lady Lakers were victims of defeat to Adirondack – 23-25, 22-25, 25-17, and 24-26.They then rebounded in match two with a victory over Hudson Valley – 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, and 25-16. Finger Lakes would then go on to fall in match number three to Fulton-Montgomery – 17-25, 18-25, and 20-25 – before finishing the day with a win over Columbia Greene – 25-14, 25-18, and 25-23.

In the match one defeat, Finger Lakes was highlighted by the play of Jordan Smith (outside hitter) and Conley Gayton (setter). Smith finished the completion of all four games with 16 kills, 3 aces, and 25 digs while Gayton attached her name to 39 assists and 17 digs. Danielle Joseph (outside hitter), 4 aces, and Julianna Marcello (libero), 18 digs, each contributed in the loss for the Lady Lakers.

In the win over Hudson, Finger Lakes received solid performances from the aforementioned players. This time, Smith chipped in with 11 kills and 9 digs while Gayton added 23 assists and 14 digs. Joseph, on the other hand, made good on 3 aces while Marcello found the digs column 17 times.

In the match three loss, the Lady Lakers were led by Gayton's 10 assists and 10 digs.

In the finale, Finger Lakes earned the sweep over Columbia-Greene thanks in part to yet again another solid game out of Gayton. In match four, she was on the distributing end of 18 assists. In addition, the Lady Lakers received 6 aces from Shannon Tozier (right hitter) and 12 digs from Marcello in the win.

Finger Lakes will play in its next match on Wednesday (9/12) against Jefferson CC on the road at 6:00 p.m.
