Volleyball – Finger Lakes Falls on Road to Conference Opponent Jefferson

WATERTOWN, NY. – The Lady Lakers fell on the road yesterday to Jefferson CC (conference member) – 12-25, 17-25, and 19-25. With the loss, Finger Lakes now sits at 3-7 on the season (2-1 conference record).

In what was a best-of-five series, the home team Jefferson (7-2) came away with the sweep in a rather dominating fashion. The match marked the second time both teams have met in 2012. The Lady Lakers fell earlier in the season to the Lady Cannoneers yet again at Jefferson's confines (in the Jefferson CC Tournament on 9/1) in back-to-back games (in a best-of-three series) – 14-25 and 13-25.

In Wednesday's conference defeat, Finger Lakes received valid efforts from a core group of players despite not coming out on top.

Sophomore's Jordan Smith (outside hitter) and Brittany Havens (middle hitter) each registered 6 kills apiece yesterday.

Freshmen Conley Gayton (setter), Courtney Bradish (outside hitter/setter), and Julianna Marcello (libero) each contributed in the match. Gayton recorded a team-high 20 assists while Bradish and Marcello chipped in with 17 and 15 digs respectively. Bradish's 17 digs stood as a team-high for the Lady Lakers.

Finger Lakes will look to nudge back above the .500 line today when it returns to its own hardwood to partake in a pair of matches. In match one, the Lady Lakers will take on #5 nationally ranked Monroe CC at 4:00 p.m. They will then play a later match at 8:00 p.m. against Alfred State College. Monroe currently stands at 11-0 on the season. Alfred State enters today with an 8-3 record.
