Volleyball – Lady Lakers Lose 2 of 3 Weekend Matches at OCC POD
SYRACUSE, NY. – Finger Lakes traveled to Onondaga CC over the weekend – where they played in three matches against a trio of conference members in Cayuga, Onondaga, and Jefferson CC.
On Saturday (9/15), the Lady Lakers (4-11, 2-1 MSAC) would go 1-2 in the three matches. They took the opener before falling in each of their final two matches.
In match one, Finger Lakes took down Cayuga in four games – 25-23, 26-28, 25-19, and 25-22. The Lady Lakers then fell to Onondaga in three straight games – 17-25, 21-25, and 16-25. In the finale, Finger Lakes was swept by Jefferson – 17-25, 16-25, and 18-25. All three matchups were a best-of-five series.
The Lady Lakers were led by Jordan Smith (outside hitter) in the opener. The sophomore made good on 14 kills and in addition delivered 3 aces and 16 digs in the win. Conley Gayton (setter), 32 assists, Danielle Joseph (outside hitter), 8 kills and 3 aces, and Julianna Marcello (libero), 12 digs, each supplied quality showings for Finger Lakes.
In match two, Gayton paced the Lady Lakers with 14 assists and 13 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Brittany Havens, 4 aces, and Joseph, 10 digs, both contributed in the losing effort.
In the finale, Finger Lakes received solid performances out of Smith, Joseph, Gayton, and Havens – despite the loss. Smith recorded 9 kills and 16 digs while Joseph, Gayton, and Havens chipped in with 6 kills, 19 assists, and 4 aces respectively.
The Lady Lakers will compete in their next match this Wednesday (9/19) when they are scheduled to take on Cayuga CC (conference member) at home at 6:00 p.m.
